About Us

Bethune is a beautiful village strategically located just 56 km North West of Saskatchewan’s capital city of Regina on Highway #11, now designated as the Louis Riel Trail. Bethune has a population of 400 people and growing.

The village takes its name from C.B. Bethune, the engineer on the first train to travel the railway in 1887.The original station was built near the centre of Section 24 Twp 20 RG 24 W2, which is at the centre of the current town site.  Last Mountain Lake is approximately 11 km to the Northeast of Bethune and Buffalo Pound Lake approximately 13 km to the South West.

The community is served by the Clive Draycott K-8 school (Prairie Valley School Division #208).  Current enrollment is approximately 90 students.  Students from Bethune in grades 9-12 travel to Lumsden to attend classes there.

Bethune is a very active community and Recreation plays an integral part of this.  A modern skating and curling rink facilities are home to minor sports, adult sports and seniors’ activities.  Summer time activities include minor baseball and senior men’s baseball at McLean Sports Grounds.  The Bethune Community Hall houses a number of activities including the local dance club, gymnasium facility for the school and local meeting point for community functions.
