As community members may have noticed, the population of stray and feral cats in our village has increasingly grown. In an effort to take care of these cat colonies, we are partnering with Lumsden Valley Cats. 

With their help, the stray and feral cats will be caught, neutered/spayed and then released back to Bethune. This process is called TNR (trap, neuter/spay, release) and it is the most effective way to humanely control growing cat populations. They will also be catching, fostering and rehoming any stray kittens that are found in our village. Catching and spaying/neutering the cats helps to stop the breeding cycles—and sadly for cat colonies in small communities, inbreeding is an unfortunate reality. Releasing them back to our village allows them to continue their very important role in rodent control without the added risk of them continuing to breed.

Disposing of the cats or trapping and relocating them is not only inhumane, but also ineffective as new cats will move into the empty territories and create new colonies. We would also like to remind our community that the trapping of cats or other animals within the village limits is strictly prohibited unless authorized by the Village of Bethune Council. 

For Bethune’s TNR Program to be successful, Lumsden Valley Cats desperately needs your support and cooperation. If you see any kittens or pregnant and/or nursing cats, please contact them via their Facebook page or email at LumsdenValleyCats@gmail.com. We, as your village council, encourage you to contact them with any information about feral cats and cat colonies near your home and to please help them with their mission.

Free Clean Up Week

To all residents of the Village of Bethune and the RM of Dufferin 190 – this is a reminder that this week is a free week for a waste disposal at the village transfer station.
Opening hours:
Monday May 20-Friday May 24 – between 4 and 8 pm.
Saturday May 25 – between 10 am and 4 pm.
Please take this opportunity in clearing up the community!

SaskEnergy Inspection

Please be advised there will be a Natural Gas Pipeline inspections in the Village checking for a gas leak at every property. These inspections will take place Tuesday May 21st and Wednesday May 22nd, 2024.
This will be completed by a SaskEnergy or a qualified Field Representative who has been contracted to complete this work on SaskEnergy behalf. Field Representatives will wear hi-visibility clothing, travel in marked vehicles and will carry identification indicating they work for or on behalf of SaskEnergy.
There is no action required by the home / landowner and no direct contact needed during the inspection.
